Platja de Portitxol is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Brava and is located about a kilometer and a half from the center of L’Escala, next to the Roman Ruins of Empúries, and the Platja del Rec del Molí.
It is a truly beautiful setting protected by rock formations and surrounded by pine forests that reach the shore. Its calm waters are due to the fact that it is sheltered by the “Punta dels Coves” to the north, and by the “Muscleres Petites” to the south, which make its shallow waters ideal for children.
For its beauty and the quality of its services, Platja del Portitxol de l’Escala has been awarded the Blue Flag of the European Union.
Access to the beach is done from the Paseo de las Dunas, a footpath just over 2 and a half km long along the coast and L’Escala connects with the pretty medieval village of Sant Martí d’Empúries . So, if you fancy a stroll, this is a perfect opportunity where you can see beautiful panoramic beaches, rock formations and the ruins.
